In preparation of the SWPA25 Road Enthusiast Meet this coming weekend, I drove out to the welcome center on Interstate 70 at the West Virginia state line. The reason was to obtain road maps for the attendees. Giving the latest official state map to attendees of my meets has been something I have done for over 20 years. In fact, the last time I drove to this welcome center, the kid working the counter was taken aback when I asked for 25 road maps. However, this time, I explained to the employees what I was there for, and they gladly gave me two “blocks” of the 2024 official road map.
I knew a 2024 edition had been made since the PDF of the northeast quadrant of the state map on PennDOT’s website had this year. In the past few years, it has been nearly impossible to obtain a new map, since even the PennDOT Sales Office wanted to clear out the previous year’s stock before sending out the new stock. Fortunately, the welcome center had 2024s, so my guests will receive a current one. There is just one change on it since the 2023 edition.
Pittsburgh Inset
PA Turnpike 576 now indicated as complete to Interstate 79. It has been shown as such on the full state map since the 2022 edition. However, it has been erroneously “upgraded” to an Interstate, even though on the full state map it is shown correctly as a state route.
While the Southern Beltway is indicated as complete, the Mon-Fayette Expressway is not shown as under construction from the end at PA 51 to near Dravosburg.
The map has the same dimensions as the previous year’s. However, the cover of the 2024 official road map features a picture of a hang glider flying over a valley. You can view the 2024 official road map on PennDOT’s site .
